Christy Redfearn D.V.M.
Christy obtained her bachelor's degree at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, where she graduated Cum Laude in 1993. During her undergraduate studies she participated as a research intern during the summer of 1991, at The Living Seas in Disney's Epcot in Orlando, Florida with the Marine Mammal Research Department. She returned to The Living Seas the following year for a co-operative position as an Aquatic Assistant in the Marine Mammal Department during the fall of 1992. She then attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated in May 1997.
Following graduation Christy returned to her coastal hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina where she began practice at Wrightsville Beach Pet Hospital. During her 10 years there she developed special interests in multimodal pain control, particularly in the management of osteoarthritis and oncology management (including in house chemotherapy administration, nutritional consultation and acceptance of referrals from other area hospitals). Over the past eleven years Dr. Redfearn's continuing educational hours have been concentrated in the areas of pain management, orthopedic health (including rehabilitation and physical therapy) and oncology.
In addition to her regular practice she served as the Staff Veterinarian for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center in Topsail Beach, NC from 1997 until 2000. She also served as the Contract Veterinarian for the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher in Kure Beach, NC from 2002 until 2004.
- Since August 2007, Dr. Redfearn participates weekly with the New Hanover County Animal Control spay/neuter program to enable shelter animals to be sterilized prior to their adoption. The director of NHCAC has recently requested that Dr. Redfearn write a pain managemet protocol for the program.
- Dr. Redfearn is currently the local Pfizer Slentrol SCALE speaker after completing Pfizer's program on public speaking in the area of animal health and receiving a certificate of achievemet from th eProfessional Communication Institute. She participated in Nutramax Laboratories/VetForum Roundtable on condroprotective agents/Joint Health Support published in August 2007. She has been speaking for Nutramax Laboratories since November of 2007.
Dr. Redfearn now lives here in Wilmington with her husband, two young children, and of course her beloved pets, a coonhound mix, a pointer mix and a Siamese mix.
