Amy Halvorson, DVM
Dr. Halvorson was born and raised in Wilson, NC. She attended NC State for her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and then continued her stay with the Wolfpack at the NC State Veterinary School where she graduated in 2003. Mason & Scout, her dogs, live with Dr. Halvorson along with her husband and 2 children. Dr. Halvorson has been working in the Veterinary field since she was in high school and has interest in areas such as internal medicine and chronic pain management.
Carrie Dixon, DVM
Dr. Dixon grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech with a biochemistry degree in 2000. She then attended veterinary school at the Ohio State University. After graduating in 2003, she practiced in Morgantown, WV for several years before moving to Wilmington with her family. Dr. Dixon loves all areas of companion animal practice, but especially enjoys dermatology, pain management, caring for senior pets, and promoting the human-animal bond. When she’s not working, Dr. Dixon enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, playing on the beach, and serving in her church. Her family shares their home with two cats that undoubtedly run the household.
Christy Redfearn, DVM
Dr. Redfearn was raised right here in the Port City with aspirations of becoming a veterinarian since age five. She received her Biology degree at Meredith College prior to attending NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 1997, Dr. Redfearn returned to Wilmington to practice small animal medicine. She joined LaCroix Veterinary Hospital in 2008. Throughout the years she also found time to speak nationally for Nutramax Laboratories and serve as a veterinarian for The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital, The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, the ASPCA and several shelters in our region. She recently served as Program Director to launch the Veterinary Technology Program at Cape Fear Community College. Dr. Redfearn’s clinical interest include chronic pain management, oncology and client education. Her household includes her Pointer mix- Bella, Labrador- Texas, kitty-‘Ohana (pictured), and kitty-Mira as well as her husband, son, and daughter.
Candice, RVT/Practice Manager
Candice is a Veterinary Technician that any hospital would be lucky to have. She is kind, compassionate and gentle with even the most challenging patients. She has been a constant for our clients since joining the LaCroix team in 2010 and was promoted to Practice Manager in 2018. She loves spending time with her family including their dog, Duke and pet ducks. She also enjoys traveling, boating, the beach, and being outdoors.
Kerri is a Missouri native who moved to the coast in 2015 to pursue her dream of working with sea turtles. She is a great part of the team here at LaCroix. Her compassion for the patients is second to none. She volunteers at the sea turtle hospital in Topsail. When she lands the dream job of working with the sea turtles she will be irreplaceable. She and her two cats Mr. Skin and Franklin are enjoying the Wilmington area.
Rachel, Veterinary Assistant
Rachel came to LaCroix from Wisconsin. Since being with LaCroix she has shined with her caring nature and infectious good spirit. She and her fiancé Jake love taking trips with their two dogs Layla and Dimitri. Rachel loves the outdoors and explores many of the hiking trails in the area in her free time.
Emily, Veterinary Assistant
Emily is from western North Carolina and grew up working with animals. She has been in the veterinary field for 8 years and has been with LaCroix since 2017. She spends most of her free time camping on the beach with her fiancé and their three loving dogs. Emily is dedicated to providing the best care for our patients and is a vital member of the LaCroix team.
Susan, Veterinary Assistant
Susan joined our LaCroix team in 2018 but has lived in Wilmington for 15 years! She is a pet lover for sure and our patients love her too. Susan is glad to be back working with fur babies after taking several years off and we are so fortunate that she is a part of our team. Susan enjoys free time at home with her family, 2 cats, and her dog Clark.
Taylor, Veterinary Assistant
Taylor moved to Wilmington from Oklahoma in September of 2018 but is originally from Oregon where she grew up raising and showing livestock and riding horses. Taylor’s kind and caring demeanor has been a wonderful addition to our LaCroix team and has won over clients and patients alike. Taylor, along with her cat, Smirnoff and her dog, Aldo are enjoying coastal living. Aldo loves going to the beach and hiking just as much as Taylor!
Cameron, Veterinary Assistant
Cameron is currently working with our team part-time while in school and will become a registered Veterinary Technician when he graduates in August of 2020. He moved to Wilmington from Raleigh to attend the Veterinary Medical Technology Program at CFCC due to his passion for small animal medicine. He plans to continue his education at NCSU through distance learning to work towards an undergraduate certificate in animal nutrition. He has two sweet cats of his own, Matilda and Leche (photographed), and will one day in the near future rescue a dog! Cameron has been with Vets Pets since 2016 and has loved becoming a part of the LaCroix family.
Dawn came to LaCroix with 20 years of experience in the veterinary medical field, including several years in emergency medicine. As a part-time member of our team, Dawn enjoys bonding and interacting with the clients and their furry loved ones. Dawn moved to Wilmington with her husband and their dog Toby in 2015. Since moving they have added Gizmo, a loving mixed breed to the family and are enjoying coastal living.
Jessica came to us as a part-time receptionist while she finished school. After graduation she pursued her degree in a full-time position but still enjoys working part-time with our LaCroix team. Jessica loves interacting with our clients and saying hi to their furry loved ones. She is a hardworking person that has a “can do” attitude. She always has a smile to welcome you to our hospital and loves to spend time with her family and friends in her free time.
Kaylee is the newest member to our LaCroix team and joins us as a newly-wed! Her warm smile and obvious passion for pets will welcome you as soon as you come inside. Kaylee is from Long Island, New York and grew up on a farm caring for many large and small animals. She moved to Wilmington for schooling to study marine biology but has a newfound passion for veterinary medicine and plans on pursuing further education in this field. Kaylee has two dogs, Bella and Bodhi, who enjoy beach trips and hiking with her and her husband. She enjoys baking, surfing, and beach days with her family and is excited to learn and grow in a field that she loves.
